Camp is just around the corner! Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions.
If you find that you have a question not answered here please contact us and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have!
Are your camps overnight?
Yes! All of our camps at the Texas 4-H Conference Center are overnight experiences. Campers stay in dorm-style housing supervised by trained staff and counselors who ensure a fun and safe environment day and night.
Where are you located?
We are located at Scenic Lake Brownwood, Texas, surrounded by beautiful natural spaces perfect for outdoor adventure and learning. Our address is 5600 FM 3021, Brownwood, TX 76801.
Does my camper have to be a 4-H member to attend?
No! While we are proud to be part of the Texas 4-H system, camp is open to all youth, regardless of 4-H membership. Everyone is welcome to experience the fun and learning that camp offers.
My camper is a picky eater or has food allergies. Will there be food available they can eat?
Absolutely. Please list all food allergies, dietary restrictions, or picky eating tendencies in the dietary section of your registration form. Our kitchen staff and leadership team will ensure that your camper is provided with safe and suitable meal options throughout their stay.
What should my child bring to camp?
A complete packing list is available in the Parent Handbook and by clicking on this link. Essentials include bedding, toiletries, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and lake gear. Please label all belongings and leave electronics, snacks, and valuables at home.
Will my camper need money at camp?
That’s up to you! Campers have the opportunity to visit the T-Shirt Shoppe, where they can purchase snacks, souvenirs, and camp apparel such as t-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts. Money can be deposited during check-in and any unspent funds will be returned at check-out.
Will my camper room with their county group?
Campers will only be roomed with their county group during County Camps. For all other sessions, campers are assigned housing by age group to encourage meeting new friends and developing independence. Roommate requests must be submitted at least two weeks prior to camp.
How can I send mail to my camper?
We offer a mail drop-off during check-in to ensure every camper receives their letters on time. Please label each piece of mail with your camper’s full name and the day you’d like it delivered.
Do not mail letters or packages directly to the 4-H Center, as delivery times vary. If family or friends want to send mail, please collect it before camp and include it in your drop-off.
What if my camper gets homesick?
Homesickness is a normal part of the camp experience! Our staff are trained to support campers through these feelings with care and encouragement. You can help by talking positively about camp ahead of time and avoiding promises like “If you feel homesick, I’ll come get you.” Most campers adjust quickly and end up having a great time!
Can my camper bring a cell phone or electronic device?
We encourage campers to unplug and fully experience camp life, so personal electronics such as cell phones, tablets, and gaming devices are not allowed. This helps campers stay engaged, build friendships, and enjoy time in nature. If you need to reach your camper in an emergency, please contact the 4-H Center office directly.
What if my camper takes medication?
All medications (prescription and over-the-counter) must be turned in to the camp health manager during check-in. Medications must be in the original labeled container and will be dispensed according to the instructions provided on your camper’s health form. Campers are not permitted to keep personal medications in the dorms, except for approved emergency items such as inhalers or EpiPens.
What happens if my camper becomes ill or injured?
Your camper’s safety is our top priority. In the event of illness or injury, our trained health manager will assess and provide appropriate care. Parents/guardians will be contacted if the situation requires medical attention or if your camper needs to leave camp. Minor incidents (like scrapes or bug bites) are treated on-site.
What are the safety and supervision measures at camp?
The Texas 4-H Center follows strict safety guidelines and maintains low staff-to-camper ratios to ensure close supervision. All staff receive training in youth development, safety procedures, and first aid/CPR. Campers are supervised during all activities, including free time and overnight.
Can parents visit or call during camp?
To help campers adjust and stay immersed in the camp experience, we do not allow parent visits or phone calls during camp. This helps reduce homesickness and supports your camper’s independence. If there’s an emergency, parents will be contacted immediately by camp staff.
